Estos son algunos de mis libros álbumes favoritos dentro de mi colección. Si alguien tiene alguna recomendación sería chévere si la comparten.
These are some of my favourite pictures books from my personal collection. If someone has a recommendation it would be cool if you share it as well.
“Un Minuto” por Somin Ahn
Este libro llamó mi atención en la feria de Bologna del 2016, en el stand había dos versiones, en inglés e italiano. Me acerqué, la eché un vistazo y me enamoré de las ilustraciones y sobretodo del contexto, así que tuve que llevármelo a casa. Las imágenes fueron hechas con técnicas mixtas, que además de ser simples y con bastante utilización de espacio blanco, en algunas partes el nivel de detalle también es minucioso. Recomiendo este libro porque tiene una descripción sutilmente poética entre la metáfora de la imagen y el texto que hacen relación al paso del tiempo. Somin Ahn relaciona lo que significa este espacio de tiempo con respecto a situaciones y perspectivas diversas. A pesar de no ser una historia completamente lineal, la manera en la que cierra el libro es muy inteligente, creando una clausura que termina con el cuento pero con una agradable sorpresa.
“One Minute” by Somin Ahn
This book called my attention in Bologna Children’s Book Fair of 2016. At the stand there were two versions, English and Italian. I came closer to have a look and I felt in love of the illustrations and even more with the context, so I had to take it with me back home. The images were worked with mixed media, that besides of being very simple and using a lot of white space, in some parts the detail level it is also meticulous. I recommend this book because it has a very subtle poetic description between the metaphor of the image and the text that talks about the pass of time. Somin Ahn relates what means this space of time with diverse situations and perspectives. Even though the story is not completely in a lineal form, the way the book ends is very intelligent. It creates a closure that finishes the story with a pleasant surprise.
“El Pato Y la Muerte” por Wolf Erlbruch
Descubrí este libro en la clase de ilustración en la universidad. Ese día mi profesor nos la mostró como ejemplo de diversidad de temas en libros álbum. Como el título lo indica, la historia habla sobre la muerte pero de una manera positiva, libre de estereotipos y sentimentalmente reconfortante. Creo que este libro sería un buen regalo como comprensión de este acontecimiento natural y puede funcionar para niños, como para adultos. En cuanto al diseño, hay bastante espacio negativo y el libro está enfocado más en los personajes que en detalles elaborados, lo cual crea un ambiente sobrio y elegante. Wolf Erlbruch usa mucho collage con técnicas mixtas, utilizando colores pasteles y oscuros, que resaltan la personalidad única del Pato y la Muerte. Si estás interesado en la ilustración infantil, este libro no debe falta en tu estantería porque es un clásico.
“Duck, Death and Tulip” by Wolf Erlbruch
I discovered this book in my illustration class at university. This day my professor showed us this book as an example of diversity on themes in picture books. As the title indicates, the story talks about death but in a positive way, free of stereotypes and it is sentimentally comforting. I believe this book would be a good gift as way of understanding this natural event and it can work well with children and adults as well. About the design, there is a lot of negative space and the book is focused more on the characters than elaborated details, which creates an elegant and sober atmosphere. Wolf Erlbruch uses collage with mix media, adding pastel and dark colours, which highlight the unique personality of Duck and Death. If you are interested in children illustration, this book cannot miss in you bookshelf because it is a classic.
“Buen viaje, Bebé” por Beatrice Alemagna
La primera vez que vi este libro fue en la fue en la feria de Bolonia del 2016 y me arrepentí de no haberlo comprado esa vez. El año siguiente fui decidida a la feria a llevármelo y lo encontré en el stand de Topipittori (la versión en italiano es “Buon Viaggio Piccolino”). Este libro gira en torno a un extracto del día a día en el contexto de una familia con un niño pequeño, pero tiene un gran significado por el punto de vista del bebé. La narrativa trascurre con un lenguaje simple que se combina de una manera muy natural con las ilustraciones, creando un ambiente muy cálido en el sentir de la historia. Este es uno de esos libros que cuando se terminan, hace suspirar.
“Bon voyage bébé” by Beatrice Alemagna
The first time I saw this book was in the Bologna Fair in 2016 and I regretted for not having bought it that time. The next year I went to the fair with all the intention to take it and I found it in the Topipittori stand (the Italian version is “Buon Viaggio Piccolino”). This book goes around a moment in daily life in the context of a family with a baby, but it has a bigger meaning because of the baby’s point of view. The narrative uses simple language that combines the illustrations in a natural way, creating a heart-warming atmosphere in the feeling of the story. This is one of those books that when you finish them, they make you sigh.
“Pan de Nube” por Baek Hee Na
Este libro llegó a mis manos por una amiga coreana, Paula. Estoy muy agradecida con ella y que el libro entrara a mi vida. La verdad es que no he puesto empeño en hacer la traducción del coreano al español, pero lo que entiendo de la historia y la portada es que las los personajes utilizaron pedazos de nube para hornear pan y por esto los que probaban de este, flotaban como las nubes. Lo mejor del libro son las ilustraciones que han sido trabajadas con muñecos hechos a mano con diversos materiales como telas, papel, plástico, utilización de luces, etc. La creación de espacios y perspectivas son únicas con respecto a las limitaciones que puede brindar este tipo de trabajo. Se nota que este proyecto fue muy demandante, por el nivel de ejecución respecto al tiempo y técnica. Mi única crítica es que la portada de la versión que tengo (versión coreana) no muestra lo bonito que es el libro en el interior. En el 2005 Hee-Na Baek fue escogida como ilustradora del año en la feria de Bolonia por las ilustraciones de este libro.
“Cloud Bread” by Baek Hee Na
This book came to my hands because of a Korean friend, Paula. I am very grateful with her of having this book in my life. The truth is that I haven’t make an effort to translate it from Korean to Spanish, but what I understand from the story and the cover is that the characters used a piece of cloud to bake bread and when they ate them, they flew as clouds. The best con this book are the illustrations that had been worked with hand-made figures of different materials like fabrics, paper, plastic, little lights, etc. The setting-up of space and perspectives are unique according to the limitation that this work can contain. I can imagine this project was very demanding, because of the level of execution according to time and techniques. My only critique is that in the version that I have (the Korean version), the cover does not show how beautiful the book is inside. Because of the illustrations of this book, in 2005 Hee-Na Baek was chosen as illustrator of the year in Bologna fair.
“Archi Snufflekins Oliver Valentine Cupcake Tiberius” por Katie Harnett
La historia de este gato llegó a mí porque iban a hacer un evento en la librería Heffers en Cambridge. Era el lanzamiento de este libro, porque Katie Harnett estudió en mi maestría y por lo regular en Heffers es donde hacían eventos con los ilustradores locales, especialmente de nuestra escuela. No pude asistir al evento, pero fui a verlo unos días después. A penas lo abrí me gustó por la manera en que Katie utiliza el gouache y los lápices de color, esta combinación hace que sea visualmente atractivo. Sus ilustraciones están llenas de detalle, textura y estampados, que dan un gran sentido de lugar, en este caso un escenario británico. Justo por ese tiempo empecé a utilizar más gouache y para mí ha sido un gran ejemplo en cómo podía mezclar más materiales con este medio.
“Archi Snufflekins Oliver Valentine Cupcake Tiberius” by Katie Harnett
The story of this cat came to me because there was going to be an event at Heffers bookstore in Cambridge. It was the book launch of Tiberius, because Katie Harnett studied my MA and regularly at Heffers is where local illustrators and specially graduated from my school organized events. I could not go to that day, but I went to see it some days later. As soon as I open it, I like it because of the way Katie uses gouache and colour pencils, this combination makes that it visually attractive. Her illustrations are full of details, texture and pattern, that give a great sense of place, in this case a British scenario. Around that time I started to use more often gouache and for me it was a great example as how I could mix more materials with this medium.
